The village received its name in honor of St. Luke, because the word Theologos translates as "theologian." St. Luke actively carried the teachings of Christ to the world, and he began to do it exactly on the site of the current Theologos on Thassos. It is Luka that we owe the appearance of another island sight - the monastery of Archangel Michael, but this is another story.
Theologos is the former capital of the island of Thassos. Now it is hard to believe, since in our time the Theologos looks, to put it mildly, not in the capital. Not the capital's quiet, calm, unhurried. Disrupts the tranquility of only the invasion of tourists in the seasonal months, and even then only for a few hours a day. It is very original, due to the fact that the Greek government at a time recuperated and declared Theologos a monument of Greek culture, and began to monitor all changes and structures in the village.
The streets in Theologos are narrow, as in all truly Greek villages. Even the main street is so narrow that parking by car is a real problem. And if at this time there will be a sightseeing big bus ... In Theologos there are museums, there is a shoemaker workshop, in which you can buy real leather sandals. The theologos is famous for its taverns, which serve fried on a spit of sheep and goats.
The theologos is very small, it can be walked around for an hour and a half. The theologos will surprise you with ancient traditional buildings and buildings, architectural finds of masters, the imagination of modern residents in decorating their homes.
On the streets of Theologos sell honey and sweets for tourists. Do not sell local people, and enterprising businessmen. Honey is here as everywhere on the island, so it's not worth it to go here for honey, but for fried meat in taverns - sure.
You can get to Theologos from the capital of Thassos Limenas by bus on its schedule, you can come from Limenaria on a rented car, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the village of Potos via the village of Potos. Theologos should arrive at least half a day in order to feel the spirit of this non-tourist Greece.
